Product Description
EV Charging Companion is a mobile concept designed to simplify electric vehicle charging by integrating smart route planning, real-time station availability, and transparent pricing into one seamless experience.
The app focuses on reducing uncertainty, wasted time, and frustration during long-distance travel.
This project was born from my passion for cars and design, combining automotive culture with user-centered digital experience.
Real-time Charging Station Availability
Live status indicators (Available / Busy / Out of Service) reduce uncertainty and prevent unnecessary detours.

Smart Route Planning with Charging Stops
Automatically integrates optimal charging stations into long-distance routes based on battery level and distance.Estimated Charging Duration
Displays real-time charging progress and estimated completion time to improve planning and reduce waiting anxiety.Transparent Pricing Display
Shows clear cost breakdown (per kWh / session total) before and during charging to build trust and financial clarity.

Charging Insights & Usage Analytics
Provides monthly and yearly energy consumption data, charging patterns, and cost analysis for smarter driving decisions.

Personal Profile
A dedicated profile screen displaying battery status, accumulated reward points redeemable at charging stations, and advanced usage analytics

Case Study
The Problem
Many EV drivers struggle to plan long trips due to fragmented information across apps and platforms.
Drivers often arrive at stations only to find them occupied or out of service. In addition, unclear pricing and lack of estimated charging duration create frustration and wasted time.
Existing vehicle interfaces do not always provide optimized route planning that integrates charging stops intelligently.
Target Audience
EV drivers aged 30–60 who frequently travel between cities and rely on public charging infrastructure.
The product serves both:
They value efficiency, cost transparency, and reliable real-time data.
Research
Conducted surveys in EV community groups and interviewed drivers to identify pain points around availability, pricing transparency, and route planning.
Journey mapping revealed five major friction points:

Survey results show that 75% of respondents primarily charge at home, while 25% rely entirely on public charging stations. This highlights two distinct user groups: those who use public charging occasionally for long trips, and those who depend on it daily. The insight reinforced the importance of real-time availability, smart route planning, and pricing transparency especially for users without access to private charging.

The survey indicates that the most requested improvement (33.3%) is more accurate and detailed charging station information. Users also expressed interest in reserving charging spots in advance (16.7%) and receiving real-time updates (16.7%). These insights reinforce the need for transparency, reliable data, and better planning tools to reduce uncertainty and improve overall charging confidence.

Design system & Visual direction
The visual direction is built around a bold orange primary color, chosen to represent energy, motion, and dynamism core attributes of electric mobility. The goal was to create a distinctive and confident visual identity that immediately stands out in a competitive EV market.
Orange was intentionally paired with a clean white foundation to balance expressiveness with maturity. While the orange communicates innovation and movement, the white space reinforces clarity, product seriousness, and alignment with modern industry standards.
The result is a design system that feels energetic yet structured combining automotive intensity with product-level professionalism.

This highlights two distinct user groups: those who use public charging occasionally for long trips, and those who depend on it daily. The insight reinforced the importance of real-time availability, smart route planning, and pricing transparency especially for users without access to private charging.

Survey results indicate that 58.3% of users charge their vehicles in the evening, while only a small percentage charge in the morning (8.3%) or at noon. Additionally, 25% reported that charging time depends on their needs. This suggests that charging behavior is largely routine-based, with evenings being the peak period. As a result, the product should account for peak-hour demand, provide availability insights during high-traffic times, and potentially highlight off-peak cost advantages.

Half of the users reported issues with existing charging apps, highlighting reliability gaps and the need for a more consistent solution.
